Bring Your Own Mum Event By Not On The High Street
On Thursday I attended a special Mothers Day event organised by online retailer, Not On The High Street. I was among a handful of bloggers selected by Mumsnet to attend their Bring Your Own Mum (BYOM) event.
My mum and I glammed up for the event and headed over to No 5 Cavendish House, a beautifully restored Georgian townhouse near Oxford Circus. We were excited to spend some quality time together in a unique setting. As soon as we arrived, we were whisked away to the private room upstairs, where we were offered champagne and cocktails. The room was beautifully decorated with a range of products available on the Not On The High Street website, including chic looking telephones, handmade bowls and paper flowers.
Holly Tucker, CEO and Founder of Not On The High Street opened the event. She talked about the inspiration behind this event, to celebrate motherhood and talked about her own mother, who supported her during the struggles of setting up her online retail business. Odette Toilette introduced us to a vintage perfume experience, talking us through the various popular fragrances from different time periods. She handed out colourful feathers sprayed with familiar scents from the decadent 1920s to the 1980s, including memorable fragrances such as Anais Anais and White Musk. It was a fascinating discussion, that was followed up by comedian Shappy Khorsandi, who had us all in fits of laughter relaying her experiences as a mother. She managed to slip in a few naughty stories, which made everyone chuckle, including my rather conservative mother. It certainly was one of the highlights of the night.
The night also included lots of delicious canapés including, mini halloumi burgers, miniature fish and chips, mushroom risotto and mini meringue tarts. Just what was needed to soak up all the free flowing booze.
My mum and I had a lovely night out, and we got to meet some other lovely bloggers and their mums. We left on a high with gorgeous goodie bags, which included a handy make up bag, a cupcake in a tin – which my husband has already attacked – and a beautiful collection of thank you cards.
I’d like to thank Not On The High Street and Mumsnet for inviting me to this special event.
